As Drug Courts across the country celebrate May as National Drug Court Month, the Big Island Drug Court-East Hawaii invites the public to attend the 41st graduation ceremony of participants in its program at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 24, in Hilo.

On this official Drug Court Appreciation Day, coordinators will acknowledge program supporters and employers of the participants. The event will be held at the Drug Court of the Third Circuit at 777 Aupuni St., in the Hale Kaulike Building.

“The graduation ceremony will showcase the accomplishments of the Big Island Drug Court participants and the successes of the program since its implementation in East Hawaii,” said Pagan Devela, program supervisor.

All members of the Big Island Drug Court team – the judge, the prosecutor, the public defender/attorney, police and treatment providers — as well as the graduates’ families, will celebrate the occasion and the annual national observance in tribute to the outreach effort’s success in helping people to turn their lives around.
